A Deafening Silence

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dear Sir:

During a political rally this week, Donald Trump once again raised the “crooked Hillary, lock her up” mantra to his adoring followers. Interestingly, this happened almost at the same time that the conclusions of the more than two year investigation of Hillary Clinton by the Department of Justice (DOJ) “ has effectively ended with no tangible results.”

The U.S. Attorney of Utah, John Huber, was appointed by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, to investigate the imagined crimes committed by Ms. Clinton. An investigation that was initiated to satisfy the demands of Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. This investigation looked into the Clinton Foundation, the Uranium One sale, and other false accusations. The results of this real “witch hunt” and “hoax,” as well as other previous DOJ investigations into Hillary Clinton, have found absolutely nothing to warrant further criminal investigation or anything of concern.

While the DOJ was conducting this “lock her up” investigation, it has been Mr. Trump and his associates who have been convicted of crimes, plead guilty to crimes, are serving jail time or are awaiting sentencing, released from prison, shown to to have committed obstruction of justice, named Individual 1 as an unindicted co-conspirator, was required to pay fines due to illegal use of a “charitable” foundation, and paid $25 million to settle claims against a fraud of a university. These include: Michael Flynn, the “lock her up” chant leader at the 2016 Republican Convention, who will be sentenced soon for his crimes; Roger Stone, awaiting his sentence; Michael Cohen, currently in prison; Rick Gates, completed sentence; Paul Manafort, currently in jail; George Papadopoulos, completed sentence; and, of course, Trump himself—and this does not even consider the abuse of power and obstruction of Congress that resulted in Mr. Trump’s impeachment.

Considering all of this, it is no wonder that Mr. Trump continues to project his own and his associates criminal behavior on to others.

Surely it would be unreasonable to expect one obese, old man to carry such a burden all by himself.
